The Laws of Evening ? Reflections and Renewal through Literature?s Lens

Covenant Village of Florida, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities, will host the Nova Southeastern University Lifelong Learning Institute lecture ?The Laws of Evening ? Reflections and Renewal through Literature?s Lens,? on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014. The program will be from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Freya Homer will guide guests through Mary Yukari Waters? multi-faceted, wistful short story, ?Circling the Hondo.? The story provides a glimpse into Japanese family life, as seen through the eyes of a grandmother. The elder generation struggles as Japan undergoes rapid Westernization, and they find comfort in the everyday traditions they cannot bear to leave behind. The story?s theme is universal, illuminating the shared human condition of different generations as they confront an altered world. Homer teaches the volunteer training program at The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach. She also conducts the opening night exhibition tours and educates visitors about the unique culture of Japan. Covenant Village of Florida is located at 9215 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation, Fla. The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. For more information or to RSVP, please call 877-670-0889 or visit www.CovenantFlorida.org.
